Magnificent Century, Turkey’s hit TV series that has been at the forefront of the TV boom in the country is coming to The Sandbox Metaverse. The partnership will allow The Sandbox gaming community to create their own experiences using both original and established characters and worlds.
According to the announcement, characters of the popular show will be available on the Sandbox from the fourth quarter of this calendar year. Magnificent Century is a historical fiction drama series built around the world of the Ottoman Empire.
The show is produced by TIMS Productions’ founder Timur Savcı. According to Variety, Magnificent Century is broadcast in over 140 countries, boasting over 500 million viewers globally.
Besides being able to dress their avatars based on the characters of the TV show, The Sandbox users will also gain access to NFTs and interactive events within the platform.
Commenting on the partnership, The Sandbox COO and co-founder Sebastien Borget said in a statement: “We’re excited to welcome such a globally acclaimed Turkish series as ‘Magnificent Century’ at The Sandbox and further strengthen our growing presence in this important region.”
The metaverse gaming platform’s Turkey country manager Arslan Kiran believes Magnificent Century’s foray into the metaverse will form the foundations for a new web3 vision in the country.
Turkey has been one of the leading early adopters of web3 technology and the metaverse. In May 2023, the country’s Communications Directorate launched an office in the Metaverse as part of the government’s digital transformation campaign.
Commented Timur Savcı the producer of the TV series commented: “Magnificent Century has been a global TV milestone breaking several records and now, by bringing it into the world of gaming through this partnership, we continue to prioritise innovation.”
